How To Guarantee An Excellent Study Abroad Consultant For Your Future

How To Guarantee An Excellent Study Abroad Consultant For Your Future

When planning for your future abroad, you need a good study abroad consultant to guide you.

There are many education consultants out there. But how do you know if they’re the one that can provide the help you need?

You want only the best for your future. The same concept extends to your study abroad consultant, because they’re the ones that will be helping you with all the documents and paperwork to study abroad.

In this article, we’ll be breaking down the points that make a great study abroad consultant.

What Makes A Good Study Abroad Consultant?

An education consultant is someone who counsels students to select the right university, course, as well as guides them throughout the process.

Study abroad consultant guiding a student about studying abroad.

A good study abroad consultant is essential in helping international students make the right decisions to study abroad. These include identifying a program of study based on the student’s qualifications and interests, listing suitable institutions that suit their credentials, and submitting the relevant paperwork.

Hence, when you look for a study abroad consultant, they should be fully dedicated to your overseas education.

Here’s some of the qualities an ideal study abroad consultant should have:

  • Dedication
  • Transparency
  • Expertise
  • Reviews & Testimonials

Tips To Choose The Best Study Abroad Consultant

To choose a good study abroad consultant, you need to know how they will be handling your application.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. What’s the plan for your application? Are they listing down colleges with rankings that match your standards? Will they be making preparations for the visa application and interview?

It’s best to get clarification on all of the details, so you don’t end up lost and confused later.

It’s also important that the study abroad consultant is transparent with you throughout the whole process. Keep a look out for hidden fees and false promises like ‘Admission Guaranteed!’ or ‘100% Employment Rate!’

Your academic score and college portfolio are the true determiners of your future, not some one-time promise with no real accountability. Shady!

Woman confused about the study abroad process.

Now, here comes one of the most important criteria of a study abroad consultant – their background.

Just like how employers would survey a potential candidate before offering them a job, you should ‘interview’ the consultant to ensure they do have the appropriate resources and network to do their job.

There are numerous study abroad agencies that promise to help students, but not all of them are recognized by international student bodies. Carry out some research about the company’s history and the universities or student organizations they are affiliated with.

For example, eduloco’s partnership with ApplyBoard has consistently benefitted students to apply to more than 500 institutions in one go. Talk about efficient!

Another easy way to do this would be to check out reviews on their website. Alternatively, you can also browse their social media to see how engaged they are with prospective students. A good study abroad consultant knows where their potential customers are and makes an effort to interact with them.

That being said, check out eduloco’s social media here to see all the fun stuff we’ve got!

Do You Really Need To Use A Study Abroad Consultant?

The big question that many students ask – do I really need to hire a study abroad consultant?

Ultimately, it depends on you. There are several benefits to hiring a consultant, such as advising you on the application process, assisting with visa procedures, and offering community support even after you move abroad.

Students are often not clear about the benefits and requirements of international education, so it’s much easier for them to consult a professional. study abroad consultants are highly knowledgeable in various international programs and the guidelines of overseas education, which is immensely helpful to students if they wish to explore different options.

However, it isn’t unheard of for students to submit an application on their own. In fact, one of our students recently shared her experience about that here.

Virtual Learning Is Here To Stay. Here’s How Students Can Land Virtual Internships

Virtual Learning Is Here To Stay. Here’s How Students Can Land Virtual Internships

KUALA LUMPUR, 21.10.2021. Landing a college internship has always been challenging for students. But when the pandemic hit, employers were forced to cancel internship programs or move them online, making it harder for students as their internship opportunities dried up.

According to job site Glassdoor, half of the internship opportunities were cancelled. By spring 2021, only 22% of students stated they had an internship during the school year, half of which was conducted in-person.

Internships are crucial for students, especially to build connections that could land them their first job. However, the competition for internships was only intensified by the number of students who couldn’t get an internship last year – combined with the students who were looking for internship programs this year.

A girl having interview for her internship

Despite the severe lack of graduate programs, several companies have banded together to connect students with employers or part-time learning opportunities.

Parker Dewey, for instance, offered their services as an internship platform to help students apply to short-term, paid projects by employers. These were also known as micro-internships and was one of the few companies that offered virtual internship programs to students amidst the pandemic.

A similar company, Handshake, also offered their platform to help college students and graduates land internships by connecting them with over 500,000 employers. They collaborated with 1,000 colleges to offer virtual career fairs and reach out to prospective students to help them find virtual opportunities.

To date, Handshake has conducted more than 3,000 of these digital events.

“Hosting these events virtually do come with benefits,” Christine Cruzvergara said, Chief Strategy Officer at Handshake. “Employers are able to recruit a more diverse group of students to attend fairs where normally, they wouldn’t be able to travel.”

She went on to add that the virtual trend was expected to stay.

“As we emerge out of the pandemic, the big question here is what makes the most sense to be virtual and what makes sense to be in person.”

Additionally, some colleges are also tapping into local networks in order to create remote internship opportunities for students. The University of Maryland, for example, launched their first virtual digital marketing internship when the pandemic first hit.

At that time, college students were facing difficulties as internships were scarce. The exporting industry was also facing a crisis as the pandemic had disrupted the supply chain process. Hence, the University of Maryland saw an opportunity to link interns with local export companies who needed manpower to work on social media marketing and website analytics.

The joint partnership even managed to get the program approved for a grant from the state’s ecommerce department, which helped to fund costs for employers. The university successfully drew more than 100 student applications in the first summer, with a total of 24 interns participating in the program. This summer, the number increased to 30.

Rebecca Bellinger, executive director of the Center of Global Business within the University of Maryland, mentioned that it was these kinds of programs that had sticking power.

“There’s going be more demand for this kind of flexibility in the workforce, especially among students,” she said.

As the world slowly opens up and makes a gradual return to normalcy, no doubt that there will be more remote opportunities for companies and students alike.

Universities Vital In Tackling Social Deprivation Via Lifelong Learning

Universities Vital In Tackling Social Deprivation Via Lifelong Learning

KUALA LUMPUR, 21.20.2021 – Universities in the UK that are offering vocational and technical programs with partnership with businesses and industries play a huge role in dealing with social deprivation.

Social deprivation is defined as the limited access to society’s resources caused by certain disadvantages, such as poverty, low socioeconomic status, poor education, and discrimination, to name a few. It may also lead to social exclusion, or the ostracizing of a particular member of a society.

In response to addressing social deprivation, more universities in the UK are offering more varieties of programs that reflect the key needs of their local region. This in turn helps students from the local area to play an active part in the community while they make a living after graduating.

Another agenda behind addressing the issue is to uplift communities and local areas that were pushed back by the country’s economic development, and universities can play a role in encouraging regional developments especially in socially deprived areas.

Michelle Donelan, Minister of State for Universities believed that education – particularly to obtain skills – is crucial in generating opportunities for those without.

“Education is the biggest generator of opportunities. As a government, we are on a mission to create opportunities and open those doors across the UK to level up the country – and skills will be part of that, as well as evidence-based policy-making and decision-making,” Donelan said.

She also emphasized that the government should seek to achieve a balance between educating people with the right knowledge and skills, and meeting labor market needs, as there have been instances where there are too many local labors, but not for the correct labor market.

For example, there are institutions with more than half fresh graduates who do not get graduate-level jobs that match their programs.

In light of this, the government is turning to a “skills revolution” by introducing more vocational and technical courses in participating universities, such as the University of Central Lancashire and University of Sunderland.

Donelan also believed that the new lifelong learning entitlement will shape the education system to be more flexible and suitable for today’s world, and that “it will unlock higher education to a whole swathe of the population who thought it was never for them”.

This lifelong learning concept is especially useful to mature students with other commitments such as family, career, or a mortgage to upskill and progress with their career even after they have finished university.

Besides, unemployed graduates can now reskill to land a career that fits their program or the regional labor market, giving them an opportunity to earn money and to contribute to society.

Hence, social deprivation can be tackled.

To make it happen, Donelan is actively urging universities to fully embrace the idea of lifelong learning entitlement by partnering with businesses within a community and to invest in technical certification and degree apprenticeships.

Why Your High School Graduate Should Study Abroad & What To Expect

Why Your High School Graduate Should Study Abroad & What To Expect

The high school graduate who lives rent-free in your home is finally ready for college.

Besides having ultimate freedom and the occasional worry of your precious baby aside, there is another problem that needs solving first:

How do you make sure that your child gets the best of their higher education after graduating high school?

If you ask me, the answer is simple: study abroad!

Before you berate me for suggesting something so risky due to the pandemic, hear me out!

Your High School Graduate Will Benefit From The Global Challenges

I’ll be completely honest – there will be risks when your child moves overseas to further their studies, especially amidst a pandemic.

However, apart from the challenges and uncertainties, your teen will be experiencing firsthand how another country handles a global health crisis. This is an eye-opener to a child who has never been exposed to the lifestyles of their peers from other countries.

For example, they could meet and get to know the struggles of Covid-19 survivors in their host country. Besides, they can join groups and societies in their university to help others get through the pandemic!

They Will Learn To Survive In A Competitive Work Environment

What’s worse than a pandemic? Watching your child struggle to get a job despite having a string of A’s.

The job market is getting more competitive each year. To make things worse, employers can have baffling expectations at times – multilingual and international work experience from a fresh graduate? Come on!

But no worries – graduates who had studied abroad tend to have a higher rate of employment. In fact, a study from the University of California, Merced showed that 97% of students with a study abroad experience secured a job within 12 months of graduation, while only 49% of local graduates were hired in the same period.

Students who had studied abroad tend to complete their internships overseas and pick up a new language. This gives them a head-start on their language skills and work experience they need to kickstart a global career.

Also, 80% of students with an overseas experience adapt better in different work environments. Speak of killing two birds with a stone!

Increased Maturity & Growth In Personality

When one shows up to an interview confident, they are already halfway there to getting the job.

A high school graduate may be unprepared when they step into a different country alone, but give them a few years and they will return wiser, better-equipped, and mature. Exploring their late teens and early adulthood independently in an international setting also exposes them to effective and cross-cultural communication. These experiences will shape them to be confident and mature individuals capable of taking on any challenge. They will eventually contribute to a better quality of work and life!

For more reasons as to why you should let your child study abroad amidst the pandemic, check out this article: Why It’s Best For Your Child To Study Abroad Amidst Covid-19

And now, to my next point..

What To Expect When Sending Your High School Graduate Abroad

1) Your Child’s Safety Is A Concern, And Rightfully So

There are many reasons to be concerned with your child’s safety. In an era of terrorist attacks, the word ‘terrorism’ easily sends shudders down anyone’s spine. I can only imagine how it’s like for parents sending their children abroad! Your child will also be exposed to many other factors that may jeopardize their safety, such as fraud, assaults of any kind, alcohol, and drugs.

There are a few steps to ensure the safety of your child and to give yourself a peace of mind when they’re abroad:

  • Choose a country with a lower crime rate.
  • Research about the host country with your child. Not only does it help you both understand the local customs and laws better, but it can be a great bonding moment too!
  • Make a university checklist with your child and make sure that the short-listed schools are well-known for their safety measures and protocols.
  • Talk to your child about responsible drinking and the dangers of drugs.
  • Educate your child about the use of their debit and credit cards to avoid theft and fraud.

2) Estimate Your Expenses Wisely – It’s At Least A 3-Year Investment!

Every parent wants the best for their child, and that includes sending them abroad if that’s what they want.

However, you should be aware that studying abroad can easily cost two to three times more than the fees of a local university. Fortunately, there are plenty of affordable programs abroad that will suit your child’s education goals and your budget.

Universities abroad tend to offer scholarships to international students. If research seems tedious, you can always seek help from a counsellor such as Eduloco. Virtual consultations are available and the counsellors will look for universities and countries that best fit your budget.

Keep in mind that the cost of living and accommodation is also a heavy weight to carry. A good way to manage these expenses is by encouraging your child to take up a part-time job to earn some pocket money for themselves. They will understand the value of money and learn to be self-sufficient at a young age!

3) Keeping In Touch Is Vital For A Healthy Family Relationship

Gen Z can be individualistic and more independent than you think.

While you worry about how they adapt to their new environments out of concern, they could find it frustrating to have someone constantly checking on them.

So, how to keep in touch with your child without suffocating them? Technology!

Your child, a Gen Z, is a digital native. Instead of texting them every now and then, try utilizing mobile applications that align with what they are comfortable with. For example, you and your child can set a time and date every month to have a video call using Skype, Whatsapp, or even Facebook! This way, your child won’t feel pressured to reply to your constant texts when they’re occupied with activities. They will even look forward to a fun video call to give an update about their life overseas.

As independent as they may be, your child will still long for home. A video call every once in a while will surely be a good homesick-reliever!

You may think that your child, a mere high school graduate, is not ready for an overseas adventure alone. But trust me, this experience will be a life-changer for them that can shape them to be mature, confident, and independent individuals.

So, are you ready for your child’s next big adventure?

Meanwhile, 16% believed that a globally recognized degree could provide good value to their resume and 11% stated that they were going abroad to gain international exposure and grow personally and professionally.

However, the pandemic has complicated those goals.

One of the challenges that students face today are delays in the application process, whose offices are now flooded with numerous documents and files after months of inactivity during the lockdown. Now, more than ever, students are in need of assistance to handle university applications and acquaint themselves with the study abroad process once again.

“Eduloco strives to reduce the hassle of traditional enrollment methods by providing virtual assistance that students can apply for from the comfort of home,” Thalia Bondoc, co-founder of Eduloco explained.

I Tried Submitting My Own University Application. Here’s How It Went!

I Tried Submitting My Own University Application. Here’s How It Went!

Once, I tried applying to university.

By myself.

Yes, with no help or guidance. It was a frenzy of confusion faced by stringent college requirements and hectic submission deadlines. It was one of those poor decision-making moments when you think to yourself, hey, why not I try a bad idea and make it a good one?

How My University Application Went

So here I am.

Student trying to submit her university application.

Frantically searching for open intakes, googling country visa guidelines and trying to make sense of the list of documents I’m supposed to submit my university application before the end of the week. Crap, it’s already Wednesday. Did I mention I have no clue what this list means?

  • Academic transcripts
  • Personal statement
  • Recommendation letter
  • Language proficiency test
  • Application fee

I had to get in touch with the college counsellor to clarify what these documents meant. They took their own sweet time to reply me, wasting three precious hours to meet an already short deadline.

Apparently, academic transcripts meant my academic results from high school, so I spent another three hours digging up old documents from my high school file I thought would never see the light of day again.

Then I forced myself to sit down and think of all the reasons why I would want to go to college. So that I could get a degree, apply for a job, and avoid starvation, right? Because that’s what everyone else does? But that didn’t seem like a good enough reason. Crap, why did I ever think I could do this alone?

Student struggling to finish her university application on time.

No reason to panic, Google exists for a reason. I was listing down dazzling points of why I would make an ideal student and commending myself for my brilliance when I realized it was almost 6pm and I hadn’t emailed my teachers for a recommendation letter yet.

I hastily drafted an email to my favorite teachers back in high school and, praying they wouldn’t judge me for my lack of tardiness, added an ‘URGENT’ to the caption. Hopefully they sensed my desperation and would get back to me as soon as possible.

As for the language proficiency test, I wasn’t sure where to start, so I called the school counsellor for more details. She sounded irate and was less than willing to provide me with the details, which was ironic considering it was her job. I was reaching the limit of my patience and about to complain about her lack of assistance when she interrupted me:

“Miss, you’re way past the deadline. We only receive IELTS test bookings a week before the test date, and we’re fully booked this week.”

My heart sank. I was too late.

Without a language test, no recommendation letter, and worst of all, being 2 days away from the date, it was impossible for me to meet the university application deadline. So, I did what I should have done earlier – consult a professional.

Why I Decided To Use A Study Abroad Counsellor

After consulting with a counsellor online, I was surprised to find that there was so much they could do for me. Initially, I believed that using a counsellor would be time-consuming and inconvenient, due to horror stories like missing documents and slow replies. But my experience was nothing of the sort.

They helped me to narrow down a list of university choices from 100 to 16. It hadn’t even crossed my mind to do this for myself, but with the counsellor’s help, all I did was state my preferences – affordable, located near the city, and an active student community to build connections with while I studied Law – and I had it.

I was even given a checklist to tick off whether or not the university met my requirements. That was some smart thinking on their side!

After all the trouble I went through to submit just one university application, I was in for a bigger surprise – a study abroad counsellor can help you apply up to five universities in one go! This would help increase my chances of getting accepted. All I had to do was submit my documents, and watch them work their magic.

Student consulting with a counsellor on her university application.

When that was done, all that was left to do was wait. Admittedly, I wasn’t very good with this part. If I were still doing this by myself, I would have obsessively refreshed my mailbox multiple times by now. But this time, it was different. I could just text the counsellor and ask them for an update on my university application, and within an hour or two – voila! I received a response.

I was worried that the documents might have gotten missing along the way and delay the process, but my counsellor reassured me that everything was taken care of. Three applications were still pending, but I would hear from one of them soon. She promised that she would update me that instant she got a response.

Four days later, I received news. It was an offer from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom! I was beyond elated. Not only was I accepted into one of my top university choices, but I only had to wait a few days!

My Closing Thoughts

I thought the difficult part was over and done with, but my counsellor said it was the complete opposite. We had to apply for my student visa – a lengthy and complicated process that could easily reject my application over the tiniest mistakes.

Luckily, I had a mentor with me. She guided me through the entire process and advised me to prep for the interview, giving me tips on the most common questions. It was thanks to her that I managed to pass the interview on first try!

It was such a liberating feeling to let my counsellor handle the nitty gritty details, knowing that everything was well-taken care of. I no longer felt the need to compulsively text and ask for an update on my application. Study Abroad Counsellors know what they’re doing, and they’re good at it!

So if you ever feel like getting some help for your university application, get a study abroad counsellor. They’ll make your life so much easier!

Bullying At University: What Is It & How To Protect Yourself

Bullying At University: What Is It & How To Protect Yourself

KUALA LUMPUR, 11.10.2021 – Bullying at university is not uncommon and has affected a large number of people, especially the victims. To curb the issue, university students need to be aware of what bullying is and how to protect themselves from experiencing any form of harassment while studying.

A boy pushing another boy to the wall and a girl recording Image source: Pexels

Bullying, or an act that is carried out to cause physical or mental harm to others can cause mental health issues among university students. Some forms of bullying include, but are not limited to:

  • Name-calling
  • Discrimination
  • Racism
  • Social and emotional bullying
  • Physical abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Sexual harassment
  • LGBTQ+ Discrimination

Cyberbullying is another form of bullying where the victim is bullied on social media sites and through text, email, chat rooms, and interaction with peers or strangers on online platforms. It is also a prominent form of bullying that affects 1 in every 10 students, as reported by ABC News.

According to the article “Bullying in university between peers and by personnel: cultural variation in prevalence, forms, and gender differences in four countries” by Pörhölä, M., Cvancara, K., Kaal, E., the United States was reported to have the highest frequencies of bullying at university in most of the forms, such as verbal attacks, criticism, mocking a person’s personal qualities, social discrimination, and physical damage to the victims’ personal belongings.

Furthermore, data of a Student Experience Report from the National Union of Students (NUS) showed that 7% out of 3,135 students from the United Kingdom had been through bullying at university, whereas 79% of them have witnessed bullying during their time as a university student.

Bullying at university can be curbed through various methods:

1) Speak to someone trustworthy who can help

Student Unions are usually able to help students sort out problems that arise at the university. They may have counsellors who can help students deal with any mental health issues that resulted from their experience as a bully victim.

Friends and family are usually trusted people who can help students report bullying, as well as to provide emotional support when needed.

2) Keep an eye out for anti-bullying campaigns

With mental health awareness on the rise, more universities are embracing the issue and having their own anti-bullying campaigns. From sexual harassment to verbal abuse, universities are taking the first step to provide support to the victims.

These campaigns may exist in the forms of a social media hashtag, talks, seminars, and more, with the goal of giving victims a voice to speak up about their experiences.

3) Report the act of bullying to the campus authority

The campus authority or Law Enforcement team will know what actions they should take to help a victim. A prompt action by the student will ensure that the authority could investigate and punish the bully and ensure the safety and health of the victim.

In conjunction with World Mental Health Day, here are some articles that may help you understand the topic better:

Virtual Study Abroad Now A Reality For A Global Education

KUALA LUMPUR, 4.10.2021 – It is now possible to have a virtual study abroad program to compensate the inability to travel overseas faced by international students. This is due to the advancement of distance learning tools and education programs by universities to cope with the new normal caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a virtual study abroad program, students will fully experience a global education and international opportunities online. Some courses may even include an in-person trip at the end of the semester.

Online classes will be held by professors and instructors of the particular institution, and students may even get to ‘travel’ to various locations, such as field trips to landmarks of the host country. virtually

The Language Studies (French) Department at Duke University, North Carolina shows a good example of how the program works. Students will undergo virtual internships in France, and they will take two Zoom classes that enrich the overall internship experience by focusing on work culture, art, culture, and the history of immigration.

The end-of-semester evaluations reflected positive overall feedback – high engagement rate, improved linguistic gains, and an increase of interest in French studies.

Deborah Reisinger, Associate Professor of the Practice of French believed that this move will benefit the future of global education by providing flexibility, affordability, and sustainability, to name a few.

While students may not be able to physically immerse themselves in a different country, the virtual study abroad program promises an eye-opening experience. From learning a new language, discovering a new culture, and networking with international peers, the program offers students a lifelong opportunity – at a fraction of the cost.

This means that more students will have access to a global education without worrying about accommodation and travel expenses.

The virtual study abroad program also offers working students the flexibility to balance their school and work schedule while networking internationally.

This new way of learning is expected to make people see higher education abroad in a new light.

Why It’s Best For Your Child To Study Abroad Amidst Covid-19

Why It’s Best For Your Child To Study Abroad Amidst Covid-19

Sending your child to study abroad amidst Covid-19 may seem like a risky thing to do.

But what if I say you’re wrong?

What if..it is the best decision instead?

“Will my child be safe?”

“What if he gets infected with Covid-19 too?”

“What if a lockdown happens again and she can’t come back?”

As parents, it is normal to worry about how your children will cope in university, especially during a pandemic.

However, that should not stop your child from getting the study abroad experience they deserve.

There are plenty of opportunities that your child will gain if they study abroad amidst Covid-19.

Don’t believe me? Here are 9 reasons why you should.

This Is The Best Time To Apply – And Get Accepted

Universities worldwide are now reopening their doors to international students. Hence, the volume of enrollments will be less competitive compared to applying the following year.

If you wait it out, your child might lose their chance of getting accepted immediately due to the long waiting list!

Global Vaccination Rates Are Gradually Speeding Up

According to Our World in Data, popular study abroad destinations such as the US, UK, Canada, and Europe already have half of their population fully-vaccinated: United States (54.61%), United Kingdom (65.59%), Canada (70.33%), Europe (51.74%), and the European Union (62.22%).

Moreover, universities in the US are making it mandatory for students to be vaccinated first to reduce the rate of infectivity.

So, there is no reason to be worried!

Experiencing A Different Educational System Boosts Their Overall Performance

Experiencing a foreign academic system exposes your child to new ways of problem solving.

The curriculum in the US, UK, and Canada encourages students to be vocal about their ideas and opinions. This will build their confidence as they step out of their comfort zone.

They will also learn to understand and accept the differences among people, which is a vital element to the new generation’s growth as global citizens. Besides, the more they learn, the better prepared they will be in facing the challenges of their careers and adult life.

Your Child Will Look At Human Issues At A Global Scale

Some of you may shudder at the thought of sending your child to study abroad amidst Covid-19.

But let me assure you: There is no better way to quench their thirst for knowledge than to let them experience a new country and culture.

With the opportunity to witness an entirely new way of life, your child will develop a better appreciation of different cultures and traditions that they can use to forge new connections and opportunities.

They will also expand their worldview as they gradually develop cross-cultural awareness by mingling with peers of different nationalities.

An Experience Like No Other

Your child will thank you for years to come.

Besides letting them experience a different academic system, you are giving your child a lifelong experience that rarely comes by.

They get to experience the complete opposite of their home country. From museums, natural wonders, landmarks, and customs, there is so much about another country that your child can discover.

If your child is an avid globe trotter, send them to study in Europe. This way, they can also visit neighboring countries, such as France, Rome, the UK, and many more!

It Gives Them Better Career Opportunities

Sending your child to study abroad amidst Covid-19 is a long-term investment for their future.

The job market is competitive. Studying abroad is an experience that employers find valuable because it means that the person they are hiring fits in a diversified workforce.

The new perspective, language skills, and confidence they built by studying overseas will also make your child a desirable candidate among employers.

Being There Physically Feels Different From Online Classes

Your child will crave for real-life experiences in a foreign campus.

Sure, your child can get an overseas degree without actually studying abroad, like online classes.

However, imagine the enriched student life that your child will lose. They should be out in the world experiencing the joys of studying abroad, not face a laptop screen in 8am Zoom classes.

Your Child Will Come Back Mature & Independent

Your child is stronger than you think. It is vital that you let them reach their full potential by allowing them to study abroad amidst Covid-19.

One of the best things of studying abroad is how it brings out your child’s independent nature.

Their first semester abroad may not be easy – adapting to their new surroundings, making new friends, and learning to rely on themselves – these will be part of their journey towards independence and maturity.

By the time they graduate, they will be the ones you can rely on instead!

Your Child Will Pick Up Useful Skills

Developing life skills is important for your child’s personal growth.

By sending them to study abroad amidst Covid-19, they can learn independence, adaptability, and other skills that will come in handy in their personal and professional life.

For example, they can build their leadership skills when working on a class project with their international peers. Their internship abroad will also expand their horizons as they learn to communicate with foreign colleagues and clients, making them much more capable in the workforce.

Studying abroad also gives them the opportunity to sharpen their writing, public speaking, and negotiation skills – all which are vital in an effective communication. Living abroad also means honing their self-reliance and resilience, which are traits that employers look for!

If you’re a parent reading this, I hope you will consider sending your child to study abroad amidst Covid-19. (And if you’re that child trying to convince your parents to let you study abroad, show them this article!)

I was a student once.

Witnessing my friends return from their study abroad as highly capable and confident individuals made me wish I had gone too! Hence, I’m sure that your child who dreams of studying abroad will benefit from this – there’s no downside of it, really.
