UK Borders Now Open For International Students To Enter

KUALA LUMPUR, 20.5.2021 – International students can now further their studies in the United Kingdom with a negative Covid-19 test result prior to entering the borders, as ruled by the government in early 2021.

A 10-day self-isolation is also compulsory upon arrival.

During isolation, students are required to take further tests on the second and eighth day, and, if tested positive, must remain quarantined for a further 10 days.

The safety and well-being of students are a top priority. Hence, UK universities are efficiently adapting to the new normal to uphold their world-class higher education standards.

“As we rebuild from the global pandemic we want the world’s brightest talent, who aspire to a career at the highest levels of business, science, the arts and technology to see our country as the natural place to fulfil their aspirations,” said Kevin Foster, the Minister for Future Borders and Immigration.

Most UK universities have established Covid-19 preventative measures, such as assigning appropriate entry and exit points, providing sanitizing stations, and putting up social distancing markings on the floor.

Additionally, international students will receive Covid-19 support services from their universities which consist of helplines, counselling, and airport-pick-up services.

International students travelling to the United Kingdom must submit a passenger locator form 48 hours prior to their arrival. The online form, which can be found on the UK government website requires students’ passport information, travel details, and their UK address.

During their stay, students are expected to observe the legal requirement to wear a face mask in public transports, shops, indoor spaces, and crowded areas.

UK universities are shifting towards flexible and hybrid learning options while maintaining their quality of teaching. Although campuses remain open, online lectures have replaced physical classes, and face-to-face tutoring is limited whenever applicable.

This new practice is expected to bring a positive and innovative change to their traditional teaching methods while ensuring social distancing among students and staff.
