Study Game Design Abroad!

Introduction to Game Design

Do games like Counter Strike, DOTA, LOL on PlayStation and Xbox call out to you? Do you enjoy the gameplay as much as discovering what goes into the making of it? If the development intrigues you as much as the gameplay itself, you’ll enjoy Game Design!

This program offers you the golden opportunity to create your own video game and make big bucks. In the long working hours of game designing, you will be intertwined with creative writing, storyboards, graphic design, computer works, and many other elements that go into a single game. Designing a game from scratch is a huge feat!

From decision-based games (Detroit: Become Human, Life is Strange, Beyond: Two Souls) to open-world games (Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, Watch Dogs), you will be free to unleash your creative potential to create an outstanding storyline that players can immerse themselves in. A growing multi-billion dollar industry, it needs more creative and enthusiastic people to pour great ideas into games.

Are you one of them?

Fields of Game Design

There are four fields of Game Design that you can choose from as your major. You can pick from these specializations:

Game Software Development

Both video game corporations and independent game developers rely on software programmes like Stencyl, Autodesk, and Unity to facilitate the game design process. There are some that are still game development software that is pretty complex for beginners, so you can be one of those to design a user-friendly game software!

Game Design

If you love games and storytelling, this is your time to shine. As a game designer, you’ll in charge of monitoring a game’s story, flow, and gameplay style. You’ll also observe the initial ideation, production, and the best part, which is beta testing. Besides that, you also need to ensure that the animation and graphics match the game’s overall identity.

Game Programming

Game Programming involves an entirely different computer language: coding. In order to keep up with player expectations, developers need programmers who can improve game mechanics and create better graphics. You need to be fluent in programming languages like C++, Java, and HTML5 to improve game functionality, such as determining the speed of player movement, how high they can jump, and how they perform in combat, among many others.

Data Analytics

Data analytics is useful in the gaming industry because it helps to gather real-time information on players’ actions. This means that developers can monitor player activities, behaviour, and gaming habits. They will then use this information to fix mistakes and improve their gameplay to encourage player retention and engagement. It helps greatly if you are familiar with video games, but you should also be good with numbers and possess strong analytical skills.

What are the skills needed?

Detail-oriented – A glitch ruins a good game, especially when players are close to winning a battle. To prevent glitches, you must first master how to code. This requires a keen eye for detail because you will be converting game ideas and functions into code.

All-rounded – It takes a multi-skilled person in game designing to efficiently produce a game. Skills such as coding, drawing, designing, and mastering multiple software programmes are only the surface of what you learn about throughout the journey of becoming a game designer.

Passionate – Don’t mistake the love for playing games with the enthusiasm of actually making one. Very few people, despite their love for games, are willing to go through the complex and lengthy process of game creation. If you think Uncharted and The Last of Us by NaughtyDog were cool, you should see the amount of passion, time, and effort the teams have put into these masterpieces.
