In august 1999, the Minister of Education invited the Multimedia Technology Enhancement Operations Sdn Bhd (METEOR), which is an association of 11 public universities in Malaysia, to establish an open university. Thus, leading to the founding of Open University Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, 2000.
Open University Malaysia strongly believes that education should be accessible to everyone and give them a chance to self-actualization and fulfil their potential. OUM offers flexible entry to Malaysians through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) system. This enables working adults to study courses of their interest without barriers or limitations. They can also use their prior working experience to earn credits in order to complete their studies faster.
Kuala Lumpur is the home of the OUM Main Campus. The University has 37 learning centers across the country with 10 of them being regional learning centres. These are equipped with tutorial rooms, computer labs, meeting rooms and reading areas for students’ convenience.
