Fine Arts is a form of cultural expression that enriches our lives and challenges us to create our own perspectives and interpretation of the world around us. The beauty of Fine Arts is how is invites us to expand our vision through creative experimentation and unique ways of communication through different forms of art. It is usually categorized in two disciplines: Visual Arts and Performing Arts.

Visual arts is a way to express feeling, emotion, opinion, and taste through visual means, such as photography, filmmaking, painting, or drawing. These are usually created for aesthetic purposes and convey the appreciation of meaning, nature, and imagination.

Performing arts refers to skills that are performed in front of a public audience, like dance, singing, drama, musical theatre, and acting. The performer uses their voice and body to convey artistic expressions to entertain the audience.

What will you study?

In the first year, you will be learning foundational techniques to develop and strengthen your creative skills in self-expression. In the second year, you will use your knowledge and apply your skills to develop your artistic portfolio and voice.

What are the skills needed to study Fine Arts?

Creative Design Skills

As an artist, you’ll need to create incredible art. But even more important, aside from being able to design and produce thought-provoking art, you will also need to have an understanding an appreciation for the different mediums of art, such as paint, clay, and watercolor. These mediums will help you work with different design techniques during your course of study.

Ability to take Criticism

Art is a subjective field, so almost everyone you come across will have an opinion on your work. Part of being an art major is learning how to take constructive criticism and digest it well enough to improve your craft.

Knowing how to filter out unhelpful criticism from practical advice is an important skill that takes time to learn.

Time Management Skills

As an arts major, you will probably be working on a number of projects at once. Hence, being able to keep track of your progress is an important skill to cultivate in college, and will only become more valuable when you move on to working in an art-related field after graduation.

Your clients and customers may have last-minute requests or change their mind. It’ll be up to you to accommodate all of them!
