Fun Things To Do At Home During Quarantine

Remember when we had a bunch of fun things to do at home without being bored?

It seems so long ago, doesn’t it? I recall the thrill of cancelling plans because it meant enjoying the comfort and coziness of home. But now that we’re stuck at home most of the time, it starts to feel dull. We begin to miss the freedom that came with travelling. We yearn to get away or ‘escape’ because staying at home gets repetitive and dull. Feel the same way?

If you do, don’t fret! We’ve compiled a list of things you can do to make things more exciting at home. After all, being home doesn’t mean you can’t have fun.

1. Meme-ify your friends

There’s no better way to test the strength of your friendships by bringing out the ugliest, oldest, most embarrassing pictures of your friends to light. These are definitely stellar blackmail material, but you know what’s even better? Turning them into your own personal sticker collection!

Apps like ISticker and Wemoji are available on Playstore for this purpose. The app allows you to add your own text and emojis to the sticker, so go nuts! Pick the most embarrassing photos, crop them out, and insert a witty caption. There you have it, your very own personal sticker collection. Now, no one can say you’ve been hoarding photos for no reason

2. Do a dance workout

Dance workouts are a great way to sweat without feeling like you’re actually working out. To double up the fun, do a video call with your friends for a group dance workout. Turn up the music, put on your best workout gear, and start grooving to the music. Since no one will be going out to clubs for a long time, you might as well polish up some dance moves while you can. YouTubers such as MadFit and Pamela Reif showcase simple dance routines that are really easy to follow, so even if you’re not a great dancer you’ll still be able to follow them. Get sweaty and get moving!

3. Create a personality test

Want to test your friends’ knowledge of you? Create your own quiz on and fill it up with random questions only your closest friends would know. This is a great way to test if they’ve actually been paying attention to your life updates or not. Don’t make it too easy, the challenge is for them to see if they really know you after all. If they get more than half correct, treat them to a meal. If they fail, it’s their treat!

4. Participate in a viral challenge

There’s nothing as effective as a quarantine to truly test the limits of our creativity. Boredom has led to some of the most hilarious social media challenges of the year. We’ve had the Pillow Challenge, Flip The Switch Challenge, Don’t Rush Challenge, and Tiny Face Make-Up Challenge. Most of them are really easy to do and only require a smart phone and someone else to record, so why not give them a try?

It’s a good excuse to get all dressed up with your friends and create something memorable that you can look back on in the future and laugh about! Bella Poarch is a good example who went viral on tiktok and now the most followed tiktoker user.

5. Conduct a mock interview

If you’ve got a bunch of free time on your hands, why not use it to prepare for future job interviews?

You can always practice by speaking in front of a mirror, but since it’s likely the interview will be done online, it’s a good idea to get used to this set-up quickly. If your friends are willing to help, ask them to play the role of the interviewer over a video call and “interview” you. It’s a good opportunity to improve your interview skills and craft the best answers so you’re not caught unaware when a potential job opportunity asks you a question like “So where do you see yourself in 5 years?”

This is where it’s okay to mess up. And you can always rely on your friends to give you honest, constructive feedback!

6. Have a virtual game session

With more people looking for entertainment online, mobile games such as Among Us have risen in popularity. The game has a simple objective: to identify the impostor on a spaceship and eject them from the crew. Players have to complete simple tasks on the ship and call for an ‘emergency meeting’ if they come across anything suspicious. This pits the players against one another as they try to defend their innocence and locate the impostor before the ship is sabotaged. Thus begins the game of lies, betrayal, secrets, and friendships ruined. Beware, though, you might not trust anything your friends say again after this.

To spice things up, do a group call over Discord and watch as your friends start to turn on each other. That’s when the drama really begins!

7. Lose yourself to podcasts

From binge-watching season after season on Netflix, the same fever has taken on podcasts. A popular one is ‘Rice To Meet You’, hosted by comedian Nigel Ng and Evelyn Mok. It covers entertaining content about the modern Asian experience, which is both hilarious and relatable. You may recognise the host as Uncle Roger, the UK-based comedian who went viral on YouTube with his ‘Egg Fried Rice’ video a while ago. If you’ve watched his videos, no doubt you’ll enjoy his podcast as well!

Another noteworthy podcast to follow is The Rumah Roy on Spotify. They cover a wide variety of topics from geek culture, movie production, to education, activism, and mental health, so if you want to expand your knowledge on these, drop by their page to listen!

The great thing about podcasts is that you can do other things while listening to it. If you’re walking the dog or doing the laundry, these podcasts can make it seem more fun than it really is!

8. Join a live stream event

You’d be surprised to note that there are events still ongoing, they’ve just been moved online. In conjunction with Peaxtix’s Music Week, Peatix has collaborated with several musicians to continue to bring you good music.

One of our local bands, An Honest Mistake, is streaming their show ‘An Honest Christmas’ online so that everyone can enjoy the spirit of a Christmas party from home. You can look forward to some good ol’ R&B vibes, electro-pop, and a good DJ set to end the night on. Tickets can be purchased here. Be sure to check out the guest performers as well!

We may have to hit pause on going out for now, but life continues. Don’t stop living your life just because freedom is more restricted than usual. There’s always a way to have fun on our own, we just have to try harder. As the saying goes, when there’s a will, there’s a way.
